YORK, Pa. --- York College used a goal and two assists from Allison Roush to defeat Elizabethtown College 3-2 in a non-conference field hockey match on Tuesday afternoon.
Roush assisted on first-half goals by Casey Lawrence and Katie Dawkins, then scored what proved to be the winning goal early in the second half to lead the Spartans (9-6 overall) past the Blue Jays (8-5 overall).
Lawrence scored at 4:31 and Dawkins at 8:17 to give York a 2-0 lead before Elizabethtown got on the board at 23:37 as
Katy Boone scored her fourth goal of the season by tapping in a pass from
Caitlin Grimes.
Just 2:22 into the second half, the Spartans increased their lead to 3-1 as Roush emerged from a battle in front to knock home her eighth goal of the year.
Grimes answered with her fifth goal of the season with 25:17 to play on a pass from
Martina White, but the Blue Jays could not muster the tying tally despite quality scoring chances from Grimes and
Liz DeMatteis over the final 12 minutes.
York held a 10-7 edge in shots over Elizabethtown and had a slim 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
Liz Hannegan made four saves in goal for the Blue Jays, as did Claire Rekitzke for the Spartans.
