ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A four-goal first-half outburst sparked Elizabethtown College to a 6-1 victory over Arcadia University in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action at Wolf Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Caitlin Grimes scored a pair of goals for the Blue Jays (9-5 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth), who doubled their previous season high for goals in a game in their victory over the Knights (4-9 overall, 0-4 Commonwealth).
Grimes scored at 5:13 and again at 13:37 to give the Blue Jays a quick 2-0 lead, and
Brenna Noon scored just over a minute later to push the Elizabethtown advantage to 3-0.
Julie Foster extended the Elizabethtown lead to 4-0 at 26:20 before Caroline Champi put the Knights on the board at 30:58.
In the second half, goals from
Liz DeMatteis at 38:40 and
Melanie Hartman at 54:21 closed out the scoring.
Elizabethtown finished with a 23-5 edge in shots over Arcadia, and doubled the Knights in penalty corners by an 8-4 margin.
Liz Hannegan made one save over the first 58 minutes for the Blue Jays before giving way to
Steph Smith for the final 12 minutes. Brittany Rausmussen started and made six saves for the Knights, while Rachel Palis recorded five stops in relief.
