WINCHESTER, Va. --- Elizabethtown College received goals from six different players in a 6-0 victory at Shenandoah University in a Commonwealth Conference field hockey match on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (10-5 overall, 4-1 Commonwealth) scored six goals for the second time in as many days, following a 6-1 victory over Arcadia University on Tuesday. Elizabethtown got on the scoreboard before the game was a minute old and went on to score five times in the first half against the Hornets (7-7 overall, 1-4 Commonwealth).
Katy Boone and
Liz DeMatteis each recorded a goal and an assist for the Blue Jays, while
Ali Cavanaugh,
Martina White,
Brenna Noon and
Melanie Hartman also added tallies in the win.
Boone scored at 52 seconds to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead, and DeMatteis followed at 14:33 and Cavanaugh at 19:45 to extend the Elizabethtown lead to 3-0. White scored at 30:36 and Noon at 34:13 to send the Blue Jays to intermission with a 5-0 advantage, and Hartman added the game's final goal with 58 seconds left.
The Blue Jays dominated the scoresheet against the Hornets, finishing with a 21-2 advantage in shots and a 17-1 margin in penalty corners.
Three goalies combined on the shutout for the Blue Jays, with
Liz Hannegan playing the first half and making no saves,
Lindy Hamp making one stop in 26 minutes and
Steph Smith with no saves in nine minutes. Danielle Lawson finished with eight saves for the Hornets.
