ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College finished the fall portion of its women's tennis schedule with a perfect 6-0 record following an 8-0 victory over Alvernia University on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (6-0 overall, 6-0 Commonwealth) did not lose a set in singles to come away with the victory over the Crusaders (12-3 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth), who had entered the match with a five-game winning streak.
In singles action,
Emily Swarr defeated Jenny McKee 6-4, 6-3 at flight one,
Allison Burkhardt downed previously-undefeated (14-0) Lillian Snyder 6-4, 6-3 at flight three,
Madison Pipkin won 6-1, 6-3 over Kayla Morgan at flight four,
Alena Marani was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at flight five over Karoline Miller, and
Kristi Noecker won 6-1, 6-2 at flight six over Laura Ehnes.
The flight two match between
Jess Russell and Lauren Ertel was halted due to darkness in the second set, with Ertel up 4-2 in the second set after Russell won the first set 7-6 in a 10-8 tiebreaker.
In doubles, Swarr and Russell won 8-4 over McKee and Morgan at flight one, Burkhardt and Pipkin improved to 8-0 on the season with an 8-5 win over Ertel and Snyder at flight two, and Marani and Noecker downed Ehnes and Brittany Veith 8-4 at flight three.
