ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team will be in action at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships this weekend in Wilkes-Barre.
Due to expected poor weather conditions on Saturday, the start of the tournament has been moved forward to Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingston Indoor Tennis Center, where the first two rounds of doubles will be contested.
Play will resume on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Kingston with the first two rounds of singles, and conclude on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. either outdoors at Kirby Park or indoors at Kingston with semifinals and finals in both singles and doubles.
The Blue Jays, who concluded a perfect 6-0 fall season with an 8-0 win over Alvernia University on Thursday afternoon, will submit a lineup of six singles players and three doubles teams that has combined to go 29-4 in singles and 14-1 in doubles.
In singles, senior
Emily Swarr will compete at flight one where she has a 5-3 overall record and 4-1 in conference matches this season. Classmate
Jess Russell is at flight two, and is 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
A quartet of first-year students rounds out the lineup for Blue Jay head coach Matt Helsel. At flight three,
Allison Burkhardt went 6-2 overall and 5-0 in conference action, while
Madison Pipkin is at flight four where she went 6-3 overall and 4-1 against conference opponents.
Alena Marani is slotted at flight five, and turned in a 4-3 record overall and 3-1 in conference play, and at flight six
Kristi Noecker fashioned a 9-1 overall record and 4-0 in conference.
In doubles, the team of Swarr and Russell went 4-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Burkhardt and Pipkin will be top contenders at flight two after going 8-0 overall and 6-0 in conference matches. Marani and Noecker will play at flight three, where they teamed to go 5-0 overall and 4-0 in conference action.
