Katy Boone finished with a hat trick as Elizabethtown College locked up a Commonwealth Conference playoff berth with a 5-1 win over Albright College in field hockey action at Wolf Field on Saturday afternoon.
Liz DeMatteis finished with a goal and an assist for the Blue Jays (11-5 overall, 5-1 Commonwealth), who have won three consecutive games and scored 17 goals over that span. With the win, Elizabethtown is guaranteed a spot in the conference playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.
After
Brenna Noon scored at 11:03 to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead, Boone scored her first goal of the day at 20:20 to double the Blue Jay lead to 2-0. The Lions (6-12 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth) got on the scoreboard as time expired in the first half on a goal from Gia Boscola.
The second half was controlled by the Blue Jays, as DeMatteis scored at 42:40 off an assist by
Julie Foster to extend the Elizabethtown advantage to 3-1. Boone then scored at 47:20 from
Meg Cassels and completed the hat trick as time expired in the match with an assist to
Martina White.
Elizabethtown finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots over Albright, and had a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
Liz Hannegan made three saves to claim the victory for the Blue Jays, while Kaitlyn Johnstone was not credited with any stops for the Lions.
