ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Shelly Lobach and Jocelyn Novak each scored a pair of goals to lead seventh-ranked Lebanon Valley College to a 5-1 victory over Elizabethtown College in a Commonwealth Conference field hockey semifinal match on Wednesday afternoon.
Caitlin Vasey added three assists for the Flying Dutchmen (17-2 overall), who will face top-ranked Messiah College in the championship game on Saturday after the Falcons defeated Widener University 8-0 in Wednesday's other semifinal match.
Liz DeMatteis scored the lone goal of the afternoon for the Blue Jays (11-7 overall), who saw the Dutchmen finish with advantages of 20-3 in shots and 20-2 in penalty corners.
Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead at 6:40 when DeMatteis scored her eighth goal of the season as she lifted a shot over the keeper following a cross by
Caitlin Grimes. The lead lasted just 57 seconds, as Lebanon Valley tied the score at 1-1 as Lobach directed home a cross by Vasey at 7:37.
Jenni Walker put the Dutchmen ahead for good with 2:46 left in the first half as she scored off a pass from Vasey to send Lebanon Valley to intermission with a 2-1 lead.
The Dutchmen capped off the scoring with three goals in a four-minute span midway through the second half. Lobach scored at 55:55 with an assist to Vasey, followed at 57:49 by a goal from Novak. At 59:39, Novak finished the scoring with her 28th goal of the season, tipping home a shot from Nikki Bomberger following an insert pass by Lobach on a penalty corner.
