GLENSIDE, Pa. --- Joe Clementi scored with 23:40 left in the second half as Arcadia University defeated Elizabethtown College 1-0 in a Commonwealth Conference men's soccer semifinal match on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the second time in less than two weeks that the Knights (12-5-3 overall) defeated the Blue Jays (14-4-1 overall) by a 1-0 score on a goal by Clementi. His first-half penalty kick was the winning margin when Arcadia faced Elizabethtown in their regular-season meeting on Oct. 24 - a win that gave the Knights the home-field advantage in their playoff match.
Clementi's winning tally came when he took a flicked pass from Zachary Todd and in turn flicked a shot into the far right corner of the goal in the 67th minute. The goal pushed the Knights into the Commonwealth Conference finals for the first time, where they will play the winner of Wednesday's night's semifinal match between Messiah College and Lebanon Valley College.
Elizabethtown had a slight edge on the scoresheet, finishing with a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks over Arcadia.
Eric Carr made three saves in goal for the Blue Jays before being sent off with 30 seconds to play with a red card. Jeff Kratohwill made a pair of stops for the Knights to earn the shutout.
