ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College has placed three players on the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III MId-Atlantic men's All-Region team, the NSCAA has announced.
Earning third-team honors were junior defender
Tony Pacella, junior midfielder
Cameron Gettel and junior forward
Taylor Helsel after they led the Blue Jays to a 14-4-1 overall record and a 4-2-1 mark in the Commonwealth Conference during the 2009 season. All three were named first-team All-Conference after helping the Blue Jays reach the 14-win mark for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
Pacella made 18 starts at outside back and scored two goals and three assists for seven points. His goal midway through the second half broke a 0-0 tie and sparked the Blue Jays to a 4-0 win over Moravian College on Sept. 29. In 54 career games (38 starts), Pacella has four goals and five assists for 13 points.
Gettel started all 19 games at center midfield and tallied three goals and six assists for 12 points. All three of Gettel's goals came on penalty kicks, including a pair of goals in an 8-2 win over Immaculata University on Sept. 26. He has started 57 consecutive games for the Blue Jays, and has six goals and seven assists for 19 points in his career.
Helsel finished second on the team with eight goals and 21 points in 16 games, and led the squad with four game-winning goals. He scored a team-high four goals in the Blue Jays' seven conference matches, and in 52 career matches has 10 goals and 11 assists for 31 points.
