GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 2-0 in Commonwealth Conference play with a 9-0 shutout of host Messiah College in women's tennis action on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (2-0 overall) dropped just one set in singles en route to the victory over the Falcons (2-3 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth).
In singles,
Emily Swarr defeated Christie McGinley 6-2, 6-1 at flight one,
Jess Russell slipped past Stacey Clark at flight two by a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), (10-7 tiebreak) score and
Allison Burkhardt was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at flight three over Katie Marstaller.
At flight four,
Madison Pipkin swept Sarah Thow by a 6-0, 6-0 score,
Alena Marani downed Annie Gotchel 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) at flight five and
Kristi Noecker was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at flight six over Steph Knepper.
In doubles, Swarr and Russell posted their 17th consecutive dual-match victory with an 8-1 win over Clark and Kristen Chen at flight one, Burkhardt and Pipkin won 8-3 over Gotchel and Thow at flight two, and Marani and Noecker defeated Marstaller and Knepper at flight three by an 8-2 score.
