ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior
Megan VanDenHengel has been named the 2009-10 Middle Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete for women's cross country, the conference office has announced.
VanDenHengel finished first at the MAC championship meet in 2009, helping the Blue Jays to their second consecutive conference title. She finished eighth at the NCAA Mideast Region championships and competed at the NCAA Division III championships for the second time in her career. VanDenHengel was a three-time first-team All-MAC honoree and was recognized as All-Region three times as well.
Academically, VanDenHengel has a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average as an elementary education major. A Dean's List student, she is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, the National Science Teachers Association and is an Elizabethtown College Scholar, and was a recipient of the Ruth Eshleman Althouse Scholarship.
VanDenHengel is also active in the Elizabethtown College Education Club and is an admissions tour guide, and volunteers for the Interdenominational Worship Service on campus and is a Vacation Bible School and Sunday school leader.
The MAC recognizes Scholar-Athletes in each sport sponsored by the conference, with the conference Awards Committee giving equal consideration to academic record and athletic prowess.
VanDenHengel will receive her Scholar-Athlete plaque during the conference's Awards Luncheon on May 4 at Lebanon Valley College.
