Blue Jays Shoot Past Warriors, 64-53

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College shot 61.9 percent from the field in the second half to erase a nine-point halftime deficit and defeat Lycoming College 64-53 in a Commonwealth Conference women's basketball matchup Wednesday night at Lamade Gymnasium.

The Blue Jays (5-9 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth) connected on 13-of-21 shots in the second half, including 5-of-7 from three-point range, and went 16-for-17 from the foul line to come away with the victory over the Warriors (4-12 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth).

Megan Strohman and Kaity Snyder scored 13 points apiece to lead Elizabethtown, while Courtney Kofeldt added 12 points and Stephanie Ellwood finished with 11 points and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the second half to key the comeback.

Kaitlyn Ober and Alicia Engler shared the team lead in scoring for the Warriors with 14 points each, while Rachel Scheller added 10 points, but Lycoming shot just 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the field as a team including 5-for-25 from three-point range.

Lycoming trailed 9-8 midway through the first half, but went on an 18-4 run over the next 10 minutes to take its largest lead of the game at 26-13 on a layup by Ober with 1:34 left in the first half. The Warriors went to halftime with a 26-17 lead as Ober led all players with eight points.

The Blue Jays needed just under six minutes to take the lead as a 13-2 run gave Elizabethtown a 30-28 advantage with 14:35 remaining. Lycoming took its last lead of the night at 39-38 on a three-pointer by Scheller with 7:34 left, but the Blue Jays responded with a 16-5 run over the next four minutes to go on top 54-44 with 3:17 to play.

Elizabethtown put the game away at the foul line, connecting on all 10 of its attempts over the final three minutes while keeping Lycoming from getting any closer than five points.

Lycoming finished with a 38-31 advantage in rebounds, led by eight boards from Engler. Strohman paced the Blue Jays with eight rebounds while Snyder added six rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. The Warrior bench held a 30-7 advantage in scoring over the Blue Jays, as both Scheller and Engler reached double figures in a reserve role.
