Dutchmen Lock Up Top Seed in Conference With 70-62 Win Over Blue Jays

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Lebanon Valley College clinched the top seed in next week's Commonwealth Conference women's basketball playoffs with a 70-62 victory over Elizabethtown College Tuesday night at the LVC Gymnasium.

Suzie Noyes and Eryn Schultz led the 18th-ranked Flying Dutchmen (22-2 overall, 12-1 Commonwealth) with 16 points apiece while Andrea Hoover added 14 points and four assists as Lebanon Valley finished their regular-season home schedule with a perfect 13-0 record.

Megan Strohman led the Blue Jays (6-16 overall, 2-10 Commonwealth) with 15 points while Stephanie Ellwood posted her second career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The Blue Jays grabbed 22 offensive rebounds and finished with a 40-35 edge on the glass over the Dutchmen, but shot 35.4 percent (23-for-65) for the game from the field.

Lebanon Valley jumped to an early 10-2 lead, but the Blue Jays used good ball control and long-range shooting to keep the Dutchmen within sight. Elizabethtown trailed 34-29 at halftime as Snyder led the way with seven points, while Lebanon Valley received a game-high nine points from Schultz on three three-pointers.

In the second half, the Dutchmen took their biggest lead of the game at 51-40 following a basket by Lindsey Nies with 9:08 left, but the Blue Jays rallied to within two at 56-54 on a jumper by Strohman with 3:51 left. However, Hoover converted a three-point play on the Dutchmen's next possession to push Lebanon Valley ahead 59-54 with 3:35 remaining.

Overall, Lebanon Valley shot 43.8 percent (21-for-48) from the field and went 22-for-27 from the foul line including a 10-for-10 effort from Noyes. The Dutchmen also went 6-for-15 from three-point range, with Schultz accounting for five threes in 10 attempts.

Courtney Kofeldt connected on three three-pointers for the Blue Jays, including the 150th of her career, and finished with nine points for Elizabethtown while Kelly Sauerzopf came off the bench to tally six points and seven rebounds.
