GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Messiah College shot 52 percent from the field on its way to a 67-52 victory over Elizabethtown College in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action Wednesday night at Brubaker Auditorium.
The Falcons (18-2 overall, 8-1 Commonwealth), ranked 11th in both the D3hoops.com and USA Today/ESPN Division III polls, went 26-for-50 from the field for the game, including 13-for-20 in the second half, and held a commanding 42-21 edge in rebounding over the Blue Jays (6-13 overall, 2-7 Commonwealth).
Dori Gyori led Messiah with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Julie Henninger added 13 points and six assists.
Megan Strohman led the Blue Jays with 17 points and four steals, while
Courtney Kofeldt hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 points for Elizabethtown.
Trailing 14-13 midway through the first half, the Falcons held the Blue Jays to just one field goal over the final 10:23 of the half, finishing with a 23-2 run to go into the locker room with a 36-16 advantage. Henninger led all players with 11 points in the first half while Gyori swept 11 rebounds for the Falcons, while Strohman paced the Blue Jays with six points.
In the second half, the Falcons led by as many as 22 points before the Blue Jays whittled the deficit to 12 at 52-40 with 9:35 left. Strohman and Kofeldt each scored 11 points for Elizabethtown in the second half as the Blue Jays outscored the Falcons 36-31 in the half.
