Albright's Hot Shooting Leads to 73-68 Win over Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Jessica McGinness scored a game-high 22 points and Albright College shot 64 percent from the field in the second half to defeat Elizabethtown College 73-68 in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.

The Lions (7-13 overall, 3-7 Commonwealth) went on a 10-0 run in the first half and added runs of 16-2 and 10-2 in the second half before holding on for the win over the Blue Jays (6-14 overall, 2-8 Commonwealth).

Four players scored in double figures for Elizabethtown, with Kaity Snyder leading the way with 15 points and six rebounds. Megan Strohman added 14 points, Courtney Kofeldt tallied 13 points and six rebounds and Ali Jury finished with 10 points for the Blue Jays.

Overall, Albright shot 50.9 percent (28-for-55) from the field and went 6-for-13 from three-point range. The Lions also received 35 points from its bench, including nine points from MariLynn McMonagle and eight points from Rose Williamson. The Blue Jays finished at 38 percent (27-for-71) and hit six three-pointers in a season-high 27 attempts.

The teams swapped the lead seven times in the first half and were tied six times, the last at 21-21 with 5:19 left on a basket by Jury. The Lions scored the next 10 points, with six coming from McGinness, to take a 31-21 lead with 2:27 left in the half and went to the locker room with a 31-26 lead. McGinness led all players with 13 points in the first half while Strohman scored six points to lead the Blue Jays.

After scoring the last five points of the first half, the Blue Jays scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 33-31 lead with 17:34 left following a three-pointer by Stephanie Ellwood. At that point, the Lions replaced its five starters with bench players, who promptly sparked a 16-2 run that gave Albright a 47-35 lead with 11:56 left.

The Blue Jays rallied to within 52-50 on a basket by Jury with 7:54 remaining, only to see the Lions scored 10 of the next 12 points to go on top 62-52 with 6:17 left. Despite going just 5-for-10 from the foul line in the final 3:30, the Lions' lead would not drop below four points the rest of the game.

Ellwood finished with five points for Elizabethtown, but grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added six assists and four steals in 29 minutes off the bench.
