Weather No Match for Blue Jays in 15-6 Win at Alvernia

READING, Pa. --- Sarah Cullinan scored a career-high five goals to lead Elizabethtown College to a 15-6 victory at Alvernia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse match Saturday afternoon.

Stephanie Kreis added three goals, including the 100th of her career, along with two assists and Samantha Redles scored three times for the Blue Jays (3-1 overall, 2-0 MAC), who led 9-1 at halftime over the Crusaders (2-1 overall, 0-1 MAC) despite playing in wet, windy conditions on the turf of Schlager Memorial Field.

Felicia Sippel and Heather Coppola shared the team lead with two goals apiece for Alvernia, which took 20 shots at the Elizabethtown goal while yielding 41 shots to the Blue Jays in the contest.

The Blue Jays jumped to a 2-0 lead after two minutes on goals from Kreis and Cullinan, and the Crusaders got on the board at the three-minute mark on a free-position goal from Coppola. Elizabethtown went on to score the final seven goals of the half to lead 9-1 at intermission, as Redles and Kreis scored twice each while Cullinan, Megan Byrnes and Kara Solesky added single tallies.

Cullinan scored the first three goals of the second half for the Blue Jays to give them a 12-2 lead with 18:47 remaining, and Melanie Hartman, Maddy Jackson and Redles closed out the scoring in the final 11 minutes around three straight goals from the Crusaders.

In addition to her five goals, Cullinan added an assist and led the Blue Jays with four ground balls. Alexis Morris led Elizabethtown with four draw controls, and Katie Scheurich posted a team-high three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls.

Sam Landis finished with a game-high six ground balls and a team highs of four draw controls and two caused turnovers for Alvernia, while chipping in offensively with a second-half goal.

Nicole Day made four saves in goal to claim the victory for Elizabethtown, while Victoria Kearn made 16 saves in net for Alvernia.
