PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 116th Penn Relay Carnival at Franklin Field Thursday and Friday.
The Blue Jay women were led by
Megan VanDenHengel, who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in her second event of the season as she ran 36:29.48 in the 10,000 meters late Thursday night, placing 22nd in a field of 35 runners from Divisions I, II and III and easily surpassing the provisional standard of 37:30.00.
VanDenHengel was already provisionally qualified in the steeplechase with a school-record time of 11:12.2, and now ranks third in program history in the 10,000 meters behind All-Americans Melissa St. Clair '05 and Erin Fisher '08.
Colby Miller also competed in the 10,000 meters and finished 26th out of 38 runners in the men's race with a time of 31:13.27, ranking him third on the program's all-time list. Just five Division III runners competed in the race, and Miller finished ahead of 10 Division I athletes in the event.
In relay races, the women's 4x400-meter team of
Katy Fogel,
Ashley Lockwood,
Jill Patrick and
Kathryn Howser took eighth in Thursday's Centennial/MAC Relay with a time of 4:09.14, the men's 4x200-meter team of
Mike Mauger,
Wyatt Eaton,
Pat Doughty and
Kyle Grimm ran 1:31.58, and the 4x400 squad of Eaton, Grimm,
Brian Allport and
Luke Rotenberger finished seventh in the Pop Haddleton MAC Relay in 3:25.61 on Friday.
In Thursday's men's 5,000 meters,
Evan DeArmitt represented the Blue Jays and was timed in 15:06.90.
