ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College has placed four players on the All-Commonwealth Conference softball team, the conference office announced Monday.
Courtney Comstock (catcher) and
Sarah Church (infield) were first-team selections while
Paige Tanner (infield) and
Lindsey Cooper (outfield) were second-team picks.
The quartet helped the Blue Jays to an 18-13-1 overall record and fourth place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 7-7 mark. Elizabethtown posted its first winning record since 2003, the last time the squad won as many as 18 games in a season.
Comstock started all 32 games out of the leadoff spot for the Blue Jays, and hit .377 with nine doubles and 19 runs batted in, while leading the team with 32 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. Comstock had 12 multiple-hit games and struck out just four times in 106 at-bats, while her 32 runs scored rank fourth on the program's single-season list.
Church led the Blue Jays with a .435 average and 11 doubles despite missing 10 games due to injury and illness. She drove in 22 runs in 22 games and had nine multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games.
Church finished her career at Elizabethtown tied for the program's career record with 28 doubles with Lora Crawford (1995-98), seventh in runs batted in (61) and tied for seventh in hits (113) while scoring 58 runs and hitting .301 in 124 games.
Tanner, a three-time All-Conference selection, hit .340 with 33 hits, seven triples. 25 runs batted in and 22 runs scored along with nine stolen bases. She had 10 multiple-hit games and had the team's longest hitting streak of 2010 at nine consecutive games.
Tanner, who started 136 of a possible 138 games in her Blue Jay career, finishes as the program's career leader in runs batted in (81) and walks (62) while ranking fourth in runs scored (87), fourth in hits (132), sixth in doubles (23), tied for second in triples (15) and tied for seventh in home runs (seven).
Cooper started all 32 games in left field and batted .322 with a home runs and 17 runs batted in. She had five outfield assists and committed just one error, and ranked second on the team with seven successful sacrifice bunts.
Rhiannon Sorrentino of Alvernia University was named conference Player of the Year, while Jessica Rhoads of Messiah College was honored as Pitcher of the Year. Stephanie Schell of Messiah earned Rookie of the Year honors, and the Coach of the Year award went to Stacey Hollinger of Lebanon Valley College.
