ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior attack
Aaron Weber has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in men's lacrosse, the MAC office has announced.
Weber was joined on the first team by brothers
Jon Day (midfield) and
Chris Day (defender) while junior long-stick midfielder
Mike Kenneally was a second-team selection. He joins Frankie Puzzangara (2006, 2007) as MAC Player of the Year winners from Elizabethtown.
The quartet helped Elizabethtown to the first MAC regular-season championship in program history, as the Blue Jays finished 12-4 overall and 10-1 in the MAC to tie the program record for wins in a season set last year.
Weber, a three-time first-team All-MAC selection and a four-time MAC All-Star in his career, led the MAC in points with 70 on the strength of 38 goals (third in the MAC) and 32 assists (second in the MAC). He scored at least one goal in 15 of the Blue Jays' 16 games, and led the team with five game-winning goals.
For his career, Weber finished as the program's all-time leader in goals (143), assists (108) and points (251). He scored at least one point in 60 of his 61 career games, including the final 59 in a row, and holds or shares the program single-season records for goals, assists and points as well.
Chris Day repeated as a first-team All-Conference pick on defense, starting all 16 games and finishing with 23 ground balls and nine caused turnovers while helping Elizabethtown to a 7.11 team goals against average. The Blue Jays allowed more than 10 goals in a game just three times all season, and went 12-1 when keeping the opposition in single figures.
He did not miss a game in his career at Elizabethtown, starting all but two, and finished with 146 ground balls while helping the Blue Jays record a cumulative 7.44 goals against average over the past four seasons.
Jon Day was a first-team pick at midfield for the first time after being a second-team selection last year. He was tied for third on the team with 23 goals and led the squad with eight man-up goals, and added 27 ground balls.
Like his brother,
Jon Day did not miss a game in his career at Elizabethtown, and finished with 58 goals (sixth in program history) and 12 assists for 70 points along with 203 ground balls which ties him for fourth on the program's all-time list.
Kenneally had an exceptional season as the Blue Jays' top long-stick midfielder. He played in all 16 games and led the team with 33 caused turnovers while ranking second with 67 ground balls. Kenneally recorded at least three ground balls in all 16 games, and caused at least one turnover in all but one game.
In 46 career games, Kenneally has two goals and four assists for six points, while collecting 142 ground balls.
Joining Weber as major award winners were Brian Gill from FDU-Florham, who was named Rookie of the Year, and Jamie Lockard of Widener University, who took Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pride from the sixth and final seed in the MAC playoffs to the conference championship.
