ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College has had four players named to the All-Commonwealth Conference men's tennis team, the conference office has announced, with
Josh Riehl earning Rookie of the Year honors.
Joining Riehl as a first-team All-Conference selection was sophomore
Manrique Arrea, while junior
Bryan Metz and senior
Brok Walker were second-team picks after the Blue Jays finished 13-5 overall (6-0 Commonwealth) and as the playoff runners-up to Lycoming College.
Riehl compiled a 13-9 overall record and went 12-5 in dual matches at flight two, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record in conference action. In doubles play, Riehl went 16-8 overall and had a 12-7 record playing primarily at flight two with
Eric Fritzges.
Arrea, who was conference Rookie of the Year and co-Player of the Year last season, had a 15-7 overall record and a 10-4 mark at flight one of singles, going 6-0 in conference matches and finishing as the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament runner-up. In doubles, Arrea played with both Metz and Walker and finished with a 10-11 overall record.
In two seasons, Arrea has an overall singles record of 32-11 and a 24-18 mark in doubles play, with dual match records of 24-5 at flight one singles and a 20-10 mark at flight one doubles.
Metz, who was a second-team All-Conference selection in 2008, played at flight four singles and went 10-9 overall and 9-8 in dual matches, including a 3-2 record in conference play. In doubles, he played with three different partners at three different flights and ended the year with a 13-8 overall record.
In his first three years at Elizabethtown, Metz has an overall singles record of 32-30 and a doubles mark of 42-24, ranking him third on the career doubles wins list and just outside the top 10 on the career singles wins list.
Walker closed out his brilliant four-year career by being named All-Conference for the fourth time, as he was a first-team pick in 2008 and 2009 and a second-team choice in 2007. He played at flight three singles for the Blue Jays and went 14-11 overall, 11-7 in dual matches and 5-1 in conference action, while in doubles he played at all three flights with a variety of partners and finished at 14-10.
Overall, Walker concludes his career as Elizabethtown's career leader in singles wins (62-33), doubles wins (52-41) and combined victories (114). He finished in double figures in victories in both singles and doubles in all four years of his career, and was a MAC singles runner-up in 2007 (flight three) and 2009 (flight two).
Jansen Hein of Messiah College was named Player of the Year, while Lycoming's John Dorner took Coach of the Year honors after leading the Warriors to the postseason championship.
