HERSHEY, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College finished third out of eight teams at the Commonwealth Conference Men's Golf Championships, held Saturday and Sunday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.
The Blue Jays, who were the two-time defending tournament champions, were in fifth place after Saturday's opening round of 323, but fired a 312 on Sunday to climb two spots in the standings. Messiah College won the team title with a score of 617, followed by Albright College (631) and Elizabethtown (635).
Top finisher for the Blue Jays was
Dan Senkler, who placed third with a 36-hole total of 153, five shots behind tournament winner Matt Burkhart of Messiah, after shooting 78 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday.
Geoff Quinque was 10th for Elizabethtown at 161, off rounds of 82 and 79, while
Dan Bolstein tied for 14th at 164 (87-77).
Nick Iacono finished in a tie for 16th at 166 (85-81), and
Bret Hartman took 22nd place in the field of 40 players with a 171 (78-93).
Messiah earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which will be held on the same course as well as the Hershey Links May 11-14, and hosted by Elizabethtown.
