EWING, N.J. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College men's and women's track and field teams competed in their final event of the 2010 season at the Lions Last Chance Meet, hosted by The College of New Jersey Thursday afternoon.
Megan VanDenHengel shaved 9 1/2 seconds off her NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time in the women's steeplechase, crossing the line in 10:55.47 to climb from 30th to 18th on the performance list and break her own school record of 11:04.98 set last Friday at Allegheny College.
Typically, 18 or 19 runners compete at the event at nationals, meaning VanDenHengel is among the athletes who will await the release of the final performance list late Friday night and the declaration of entries on Saturday. The field will be announced Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
In other events,
Jenna Niedermayer finished fourth in the long jump at 5.14 meters (16 feet, 10 1/2 inches).
In men's action,
Chris Heisey finished fourth in the 5000 meters (15:18.24) and
Rich Greco was third in the steeplechase (9:50.61) with
Myles Lund in sixth (10:05.50).
In the field,
Cameron Aregood cleared 1.90 meters (6 feet, 3 inches) in the high jump, while in the javelin
Mike Torre finished third at 57.68 meters (189 feet, 3 inches) and
Austin Hayes took ninth with a throw of 49.76 meters (163 feet, 3 inches).
