DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team won the season-opening Delaware Valley College Invitational Saturday afternoon, placing three of the top four finishers en route to a team score of 48 points and the team title by a margin of 21 points over runner-up Messiah College in the 18-team field.
Taryn Shank was the top finisher for the Blue Jays as she crossed the line in second place with a time of 23:57.44, behind only individual champion Caitlin Dorgan of the host Aggies.
Traci Tempone had a strong collegiate debut by placing third in 23:59.53, followed by fellow first-year runner
Eileen Cody in fourth at 24:04.91.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blue Jays were
Jessi Howard in 18th place (25:20.49) and
Kristen O'Brien in 22nd place (25:32.74).
Megan Patton finished immediately behind O'Brien in 23rd at 25:34.39, and
Alison Harrell gave the Blue Jays seven runners in the top 30 with a time of 25:51.85 that was good for 29th place in the field of 195 runners.
The Delaware Valley course will host the Middle Atlantic Conference championships on October 30, and a total of 11 MAC teams participated in Saturday's event.
