Capital One Academic All-District® 4 Team

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College baseball senior Alex Holbert earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District® 4 Team Thursday afternoon. Holbert, who hit .344 and started all 41 games for the Blue Jays, was one of 11 players from NCAA Division III chosen to the district squad by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A tri-captain, Holbert held the third highest batting average amongst all Elizabethtown players in 2015. He set new career-highs of 52 hits, 36 runs scored and 24 runs batted in as a senior, while his eight extra-base hits matched a career best.

The Jays' center fielder, who hails from Mechanicsburg, was also hit by pitch 10 times this season and 21 times over his last two seasons. Holbert ranked in the top five of the Landmark Conference in runs (second), hit by pitch (second) and hits (third).

Holbert's Academic All-District® selection is his first, and comes a day after he was named to the All-Landmark Conference Second Team. The biochemistry major (pre-medicine concentration) with a 3.89 cumulative GPA now moves onto the Academic All-America® ballot. National honors will be announced in late May.

Holbert is the fifth player to receive Academic All-District® recognition under current head coach Cliff Smith and gives E-town at least one honoree in each of the last four years.
