TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference announced its first senior scholar athlete for spring sports on Monday, and for the second time during the 2014-15 school year, an Elizabethtown student-athlete has received the honor.
Kristopher Davis was named the league's Baseball Senior Scholar Athlete, joining Men's Cross Country recipient Dan Gresh as the first two Blue Jays to earn the title.
Davis led the Landmark in wins (7), innings pitched (64.0), strikeouts (55), strikeouts per game (7.73), strikeout to walk ratio (9.17) and walks allowed per nine innings (0.84). His strikeout to walk ratio was the eighth-highest in all of Division III. Davis was named Landmark Pitcher of the Year, First-Team All-Landmark and D3baseball.com Third-Team All-Mid-Atlantic region for his efforts.
The senior right-hander ended 2015 with a 7-1 record over nine starts and a 2.53 earned-run average. A two-sport athlete, he also made starts in 34 of his 50 career men's soccer appearances, and he served as a team captain for each squad in 2014-15.
Off the field, Davis maintains a strong 3.75 grade-point average while majoring in biology. He earned a spot on either the Middle Atlantic Conferences or Landmark Academic Honor Rolls in each eligible semester, and he is also a member of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society.
Davis has additionally participated in several community service and volunteer events while at Elizabethtown. He has been a Relay for Life team captain from 2013-15, and he is involved in the institution's Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM) and Called to Lead Programs. Davis also volunteered at the Hershey Half Marathon in support of Leukemia and Lymphoma research, as well as the Penn State Hershey Cystic Fibrosis Center. He was recently accepted to Thomas Jefferson University for the fall 2015 semester, where he will pursue his doctorate in physical therapy.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.Â
The honorees must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the eight spring honorees will be announced between June 1-11, with one winner named each morning from Monday through Thursday over the next two weeks.
