Holbert named to Capital One Academic All-America® Second Team

Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Baseball Team

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.Alex Holbert was announced as Elizabethtown College baseball's sixth Capital One Academic All-America® Tuesday afternoon. Holbert, a 2015 graduate and native of Mechanicsburg, was voted to the Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) following a senior season in which he compiled a .344 batting average and started all 41 games for the Blue Jays.

One of E-town's three team captains this spring, Holbert's batting average was third best of all Blue Jays. He registered new career-highs of 52 hits, 36 runs scored and 24 runs batted in, and equaled a career-high with eight extra-base hits.

The center fielder, a three-time conference academic honor roll recepient, was also hit by pitch 10 times this season and 21 times over his last two seasons. Holbert ranked in the top five of the Landmark Conference in runs (second), hit by pitch (second) and hits (third) en route to his inclusion on the All-Landmark Second Team.

Holbert is Elizabethtown's first Academic All-America® selection since Dillon Tagle in 2013. Tagle was also named to the Second Team, at catcher. Back on May 7, Holbert received Academic All-District® 4 accolades for the first time in his career, making him eligible for the All-America
® ballot. Holbert recently graduated with his bachelor's degree in biochemistry (pre-medicine concentration).
